A Service of Remembrance was held at the Perse recently when the lessons were read by Professor David Loades as President of the Old Perseans. David writes:

I was a pupil at the Perse School, Cambridge from 1945 to 1953 and an Assistant Leader with the 5th Cambridge Scouts from 1953 to 1958. I have been a member of the Old Perseans Society since leaving School and took over from Victor Walne as President at the AGM in 2003.

One of the things we are doing is re-establishing a programme of events. Some of these will be offical society events and advertised in the Newsletter, but we are also encouraging individuals and groups to organise events which may be miles away from the school. Let us know what you are doing and please send in brief reports for the Newsletter - that will give us a better impression of the real level of activity.

If you want help to organise a private event please get in touch. One of the main purposes of the Society is to support the school and we are discussing the best way of doing this with the Development Office - bearing in mind that we are not simply a function of the school, nor primarily a fund-raising organisation. Your comments and sugggestions are most welcome.

Another task which I have undertaken is to write a brief social and academic history of the school since 1945. This will be a supplement to David Jones' excellent general history which is more concerned with the institutions and buildings. I am particularly interested in the social mix of pupils, their academic achievements, and the impact of the admission of girls to the sixth form.
