DAVID LOADES is very active in Burford Church and the Diocese of Oxford. Burford Church is
one of the most visited parish churches in the UK and featured in Simon Jenkins's book England's Thousand Best Churches.
Many visitors come to see the magnificent tomb commemorating the great Tudor Tanfield family, the beautiful memorial to Edmund
Harman, barber surgeon to Henry VIII (David Loades's small book on Harman will be published by the Davenant Press in 2008)
and to see the site of the famous Leveller battle during the English Civil War, an event which Burford commemorates annually.
Burford has strong, commemorated connections with Warwick the Kingmaker, Tanfield, An Exchequer to Elizabeth I, Lenthall (Speaker
in the House of Commons during the English Civil War) and, of course, to the Levellers. These stories will be posted to the
site in time for 2008.
